Cooper City is taking another step to strengthen drowning prevention efforts and enhance safety for families throughout our community. On Monday, November 3, 2025 at 3 p.m., the City will install a life-saving ring at the Cooper City Pool and Tennis Center as part of the Aden Perry Hero Life Ring Initiative, a countywide movement inspired by the bravery of Western High School student, Aden Perry.
In April 2022, Aden tragically lost his life in Sunrise while attempting to rescue a man whose vehicle had gone into a lake. His heroic actions exemplified selflessness and courage beyond his years. In the wake of this loss, Aden’s mother, Sarah Perry, launched the Aden Perry Hero Life Ring Initiative to ensure life-saving equipment is available near bodies of water across Broward County.
Water is a part of everyday life in South Florida, from canals and lakes to recreational pools, and drowning remains the leading cause of unintentional death among young children in Broward County. The Initiative emphasizes that by making safety devices easily accessible, anyone can become a hero in a life-or-death moment. Life rings are simple to use, easy to install, and a proven tool that can save lives when seconds count.
The Aden Perry Good Samaritan and Scholarship Fund has partnered with DATREX, a U.S. manufacturer of Coast Guard-approved life rings with a lifetime warranty. The partnership makes these devices more affordable for municipalities committed to expanding public safety around waterways.
Through this installation, the first of its kind in Cooper City, we proudly join Sarah Perry and communities throughout the region in honoring Aden’s legacy. It reinforces our mission to maintain safe environments for children, families, and neighbors while promoting awareness about drowning prevention.
Following this installation, the City will continue evaluating opportunities to expand these safety enhancements to other priority locations in Cooper City.
We invite our residents to join us on November 3 to help honor a young hero whose courage continues to make a difference, and to learn more about how each of us can play a role in preventing drowning tragedies.
