Cooper City has installed new fencing and safety bollards along a canal easement between the Flamingo Gardens West community and the Countryside Shops, near SW 122 Avenue. The fencing, which required permitting and approval from the South Florida Water Management District, aims to prevent vehicles from entering the easement following a horrific incident where an off-road vehicle struck and killed dozens of Egyptian geese in late December 2024.

Bollards were installed to continue allowing for pedestrian access. While the fencing aims to protect wildlife from vehicles, it also helps ensure pedestrians can safely use the easement.

The Broward Sheriff's Office is still searching for the individuals responsible for the cruel act that left more than 30 geese dead. Anyone with information should call BSO Special Victims Unit at 954-321-4243. You can also remain anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward by calling 954-493-TIPS (8477) or submitting a tip online at browardcrimestoppers.org.
